Overview:
Dr. William (Bill) Goldner is a National Program Leader (NPL) in the Division of Sustainable Bioenergy of the Institute of Bioenergy, Climate and Environment, in USDAs National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA). Bill is involved in the shared leadership of NIFAs bioenergy and biobased products portfolio including:
"Team Lead for the Agriculture and Food Research Initiative (AFRI), Sustainable Bioenergy Challenge, Regional Bioenergy Coordinated Agricultural Project (CAP) Program. The competitive Regional Bioenergy CAP Program is investing, currently ~ $49 M annually for projects developing sustainable regional systems for the production of advanced biofuels, biopower, and biobased products from dedicated energy feedstocks through the facilitation of regional academic, industry, and government partnerships integrating research, development, demonstration, Extension, and education;
"NPL for the USDA Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Plant Production, and Protection Engineering and Biofuels and Biobased Products programs; and
"Team member of the Biomass Research and Development Initiative Joint USDA/DOE Competitive Research Grant Program (Feedstock Development and Production, Conversion, Analysis, Sustainability).
"Bill also represents NIFA and the Research, Education, and Economics (REE) Mission Area on intradepartmental and interagency bioenergy and biobased product working groups.
"Prior to joining USDA in 1999 Bill was: the Technical Strategy Manager for Applied Genetics for the Biotechnology Development Group at American Cyanamid Company, Princeton, NJ (now BASF); Research Scientist and project manager for Union Camp Corporations (forest products and specialty chemicals) Research and Development Division in Princeton, NJ (now International Paper); and Associate Professor on the off-campus faculty of the Graduate Program in Plant Biology at Rutgers University. He has a Ph.D. from the Inter-College Program in Plant Physiology from The Pennsylvania State University
