Terms and Conditions
Award terms and conditions are determined by statutory, regulatory, and agency requirements, as well as each grant’s circumstances. Terms and conditions dictate important items related to your grant, including method of payment, reporting frequency and content, and prior approval requirements.
Most USDA NIFA grants fall under two sets of research terms and conditions:
- Agency-specific research
References to the terms and condition of your award are located on the NIFA 2009 Award Face Sheet. All related documents including appendices and agency-specific terms and conditions are housed on a web site maintained by the National Science Foundation. Visit http://www.nsf.gov/bfa/dias/policy/rtc/terms.pdf to access this critical information.
Terms and conditions apply to all research and research-related (i.e., research, education, and extension) grants awarded to institutions of higher education, hospitals, and other non-profit and for-profit organizations.
The terms and conditions apply to all NIFA-funded awards (grants, cooperative agreements, and special projects), except:
- Capacity Programs
- 1890 Facilities Program
- Small Business Innovation Research Program
Exceptions to the 1890 Facilities Program are included in 1890’s – Special Terms and Conditions:
In addition, some grant programs have program-specific terms and conditions:
- Agriculture and Food Research Initiative (AFRI)
- AFRI Sustainable Bioenergy CAP, September 2011
- Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (EPSCOR),
- Small Business Innovation Research Grants Program
