AFRI Request for Applications

As the National Institute of Food and Agriculture's flagship competitive grants program, the Agriculture and Food Research Initiative (AFRI) solicits applications from scientists each year. The application process offers funding for single-function and integrated agricultural research, education, and extension efforts that address key problems of local, regional, national, and global importance in sustaining conventional and organic food and agriculture systems.

In Fiscal Year (FY) 2017, there will be seven Requests for Applications (RFAs): Foundational Program; Childhood Obesity Prevention Challenge Area; Food Safety Challenge Area; Resilient Agroecosystems in a Changing Climate Challenge Area; Sustainable Bioenergy and Biproducts Challenge Area; Water for Food Production Systems Challenge Area; and the Food, Agriculture, Natural Resources and Human Sciences Education and Literacy Initiative. Prospective applicants are encouraged to review each RFA to explore all the opportunities available to them. Refer to the AFRI RFAs and RFA resources page for information needed to submit an application to the appropriate program.
