Shafiqur serves as Division Director of Global Climate Change Division. In his role, he provides leadership and oversight for the division’s research, education and outreach activities across the nation through competitive grant programs. He is a fellow of LEAD 21 - Class 16.

Shafiqur received his Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Engineering from Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU), Bangladesh; M. Eng. from Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Thailand; and Ph.D. from University of Manitoba, Canada. Before joining NIFA, Shafiqur was a Professor at North Dakota State University (NDSU). More than 20 years, he has been researching agricultural waste management and treatment, water quality, and greenhouse gas measurement and mitigation from agricultural and livestock production systems.
