WASHINGTON, Feb. 20, 2018 – The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) today announced support to improve the farm management knowledge and skills of agricultural producers. Funding is made through NIFA’s Farm Business Management and Benchmarking Competitive Grants Program (FBMB), which aims to establish and maintain a national, publicly available farm financial management database to support improved farm management.

FBMB supports improved farm management for producers of a variety of crops and livestock and the establishment or expansion of collaborative farm management and producer association partnerships.

Eligible applicants include state agricultural experiment stations, colleges and universities, university research foundations, other research institutions and organizations, federal agencies, national laboratories, private organizations or corporations, individuals, or any group consisting of two or more of those entities. NIFA reviews all proposals accepted in NIFA’s competitive grant programs through an external peer review process in which a panel of experts from within the respective field in question takes part.

There is approximately $1.3 million in available funding to support FBMB. Proposed project budgets may not exceed $500,000. Projects may be up to three years in duration. The deadline for applications is April 20, 2018, at 5 p.m. Eastern time. See the funding opportunity for details.
