USDA’s National Institute of Food and Agriculture Announces Support for Research to Increase U.S. Canola Oil Production
WASHINGTON, Feb. 22, 2018 – The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) today announced support to adapt production of canola, a multi-purpose crop, to diverse growing regions in the U.S. in an effort to meet annual domestic consumption needs. Funding is made through NIFA’s Supplemental and Alternative Crops Competitive (SACC) Grants Program.
The SACC Grants Program focuses on breeding and testing to develop superior performing canola varieties that increase productivity, profitability, and sustainability in an expanded range of U.S. growing environments. By bringing together expertise across multiple university, federal agency, and industry organizations and states, the program seeks to enhance the effectiveness of limited state, federal, and industry resources to produce greater impacts.
Eligible applicants include colleges and universities, other federal agencies, and private sector entities. NIFA reviews all proposals accepted in NIFA’s competitive grant programs through an external peer review process in which a panel of experts from within the respective field in question takes part. Specific details on panel meetings, review formats, and evaluation criteria may vary among programs.
There is $767,000 in available funding to support the SACC Grants Program. The deadline for applications is April 18, 2018. Please see the funding opportunity for details.
NIFA’s mission is to invest in and advance agricultural research, education, and extension to solve societal challenges. NIFA’s investments in transformative science directly support the long-term prosperity and global preeminence of U.S. agriculture.
