Valuing Environmental Benefits from Natural Resource Conservation Programs

This program area priority within the Agriculture Economics and Rural Communities (AERC) program area is a joint effort between the Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS) and NIFA. This program area priority is only being offered for the 2018 AERC program. This program is designed to enhance our understanding of the roles payments for ecosystem services and/or payments for conservation practices play to protect or improve ecosystem services. Research is needed to assess the value of public benefits associated with changes in ecosystem services arising from the use of agricultural management practices. Development of such methods are necessary for advancing the ability to design and implement mechanisms to manage and protect agriculturally related natural resources.
