Institute of Youth, Family, and Community

The Institute of Youth, Family, and Community (IYFC) addresses many of the human and community challenges that face the nation.

IYFC supports the human and social components of NIFA’s food and agricultural sciences through research, education, and extension programs.  The institute’s programs support the socio-economic prosperity by strengthening individuals, families, and communities; providing resources for the next generation of food and agricultural scientists; and offering youth leadership experiences.

Priorities

  • Prepare young people to be responsible citizens and change agents
  • Develop pragmatic solutions to recurring issues facing individuals, families, and communities
  • Strengthen the capacity of higher education institutions to develop and implement curricula and teaching programs in the food and agricultural sciences as well as the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) disciplines
