Programs

NIFA programs are the mechanism by which we pursue our mission to invest in and advance agricultural research, education, and extension to solve societal challenges. Some programs administer funding and offer leadership while others focus on national leadership and collaboration. For more information on a particular program, use the site’s search tool.

Animal Programs

NIFA funds research, education, and extension activities that address animal health, animal production systems, and animal products.

Pest Management Programs

NIFA funds programs and projects which support research, education, and extension activities that promote pest management in general, and reduced risk pest management through integrated pest management.

Health and Wellness

The health and wellness portfolio focuses on promoting health, preventing chronic disease, eliminating disparities, and building a culture of health across the nation.

National Awards for Excellence in College and University Teaching in the Food and Agricultural Sciences Program

Launched in 1992, this program recognizes outstanding college professors of agriculture, natural resources, veterinary and human sciences. A selection committee of nationally recognized teachers and scholars choose two national recipients and two early career awardees. There are also six regional awards. Nominees are evaluated based on their ability as instructors, educational innovation, service to students, professionalism and scholarship. In 2018, a new recognition opportunity was added: The Teaching and Student Engagement Award.

Educational Scholarship Programs

Talented science students are the future's agri-science workforce. For that talent to be realized some students need financial support. NIFA has two types of funding options to ensure more talented students can achieve their research career goals in agriculture.
