NIFA programs are the mechanism by which we pursue our mission to invest in and advance agricultural research, education, and extension to solve societal challenges. Some programs administer funding and offer leadership while others focus on national leadership and collaboration. For more information on a particular program, use the site’s search tool.

Animal Health

The Animal Health and Disease program supports projects that develop strategies to understand, diagnose, control, and prevent agricultural animal diseases. Outcomes include, but are not limited to, new and improved vaccines, diagnostics, therapeutics, alternatives to current antimicrobials, biosecurity guidelines, and management approaches.

Global Change and Climate Programs

One of the most pressing issues facing plant and animal producers today is the ever-changing conditions and impacts of climate variability. Another critical issue is the need for scientific information that producers can use to plan and make decisions to ensure economic viability while facing these challenges. NIFA-supported global change and climate projects are addressing these issues through research, extension, and education activities.
