Pushpa is involved in the development, coordination, and management of Potato Breeding Research Program, Supplemental and Alternative Crops Program and Agriculture and Research Initiative – Plant Programs. In this role, she prepares Request for Applications, accepts applications, implements peer review process, conducts post-award management, and carry out special assignments as needed.
Pushpa holds a bachelor’s degree in botany/ chemistry from University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka and a master’s degree in genetics from Texas A&M University. She coordinated Chlamydomonas molecular mapping project at the University of Minnesota, taught biology in Northern Virginia Community College and worked as a Science Assistant at the National Science Foundation. She was a State Department Science Fellow and established a bioenergy program in Iceland.
